Also, a guy with his past abuses towards women should have no place in our game. None whatsoever. - Eklund
Lord knows I'm not in the habit of defending the guy, but let's at least stick to facts here, Ek:
- he was charged with one incident of abuse - against a single woman, not women. |

What other crimes should disqualify a guy from earning a living?
Are there any crimes that a female might commit that should disqualify her from earning a living? |

I think everyone deserves a second chance to some degree....it’s jusy with media these days it would probably do more harm than good for a team to hire him. |

I think you are missing his argument. The guy made a poor choice, he paid the price. This has nothing to do with hating Women. Even convicted felons have the right to live after serving their time. The purpose of the punishment is not to get even it is to it is to stop you from doing the same thing again. It doesnt always work and not everyone can be rehabilitated. I hate how people take other people's actions so personally and hold grudges. Everyone has done something they are not proud of. You have to learn from the experience and try to better yourself. You cant do that if you cant provide for yourself or family. |

Once a wife/woman beater, always a beater. Keep him out. If the NHL welcomed him back and he repeated his abuse, the NHL would look terrible. The NHL is one of the most supportive leagues in all of sports for causes and rights; stick to that character and keep him out. |

To me everyone deserves a second chance except serial killers serial killers, there is no rehabilitation for them. There is 0 chance that someone with no empathy who kills for the fun of it can be rehabilitated. These people should be put to death.
Everyone else can change but the fact is changing is hard which is why most people fail. Things get hard and they give up. |

Doesn't belong in the game? How about doesn't belong in society. No such thing as "they did their time", punishment for certain crimes don't have an expiration date like murder, rape, domestic abuse. If it didn't belong in the game the NHL would remove the domestic abusers from the HOF.
Society needs to accept not all bad things that happen are mistakes, they are life choices and people need to deal with the life consequences that come with them.
Who cares if that denies him the ability to make a luxury living, do what all drunken Russian abusers do...become cab drivers. |

Would you have the same opinion if he had been found with child porn? Some crimes are so heinous that it can't be explained away as a simple mistake. It is perfectly fair that this guy should not be allowed back in the NHL. Its not like he doesn't have career options, go back to Russia and play there. I hope he does improve himself, get better and treat people better, so there are no more victims. But not while playing in the NHL. |

So what crimes constitute permanent expulsion from the league? Who is going to determine the parameters? |

I would say any violent crimes that result in actual jail time, for example if a professional player gets a DUI and gets suspended and all that, yes they should have a second chance, as long as no body was hurt.
With cases of physical abuse that has been proven in court, I don't think the individual has the right to make millions of dollars playing in a professional sports league.
People have to reap what they sow, if he doesn't get back into the NHL, he only has himself to blame.
Some actions do not warrant a second chance, I believe this is one of them. |

As reported, the incident was fuelled by alcohol, which is what he needed to seek help for. Not unlike Mr. Craig MacTavish, who abused alcohol in his early to mid 20's, got behind the wheel and killed a young lady.
He subsequently spent a year in prison for vehicular homicide. At which point he was given another chance and had a successful career with Edmonton. |
